Here at Clearfield Metal Technologies, technology is a part of our name and identity. We are excited to announce that we have recently expanded our capabilities by purchasing a new sintering furnace with sinter-hardening technology. This means that we can now produce parts that have material properties of a hardened, heat treated, part without adding a heat treatment operation to our process. This saves our customers on piece price cost and increases dimensional control that can not be achieved with the traditional mold, sinter, and heat treatment process. This technology is most commonly used and ideal for steel bearing sleeves and gears of all sizes in tough applications. Contact one of our team members to see if this technology is right for your product.
Clearfield Metal Technologies, a producer of quality sintered metal components, has been classified by the State of PA as a critical supplier for components that are used in life sustaining applications. We take our role within the global supply chain very seriously, and we stand ready to continue to support our customers, and anyone else who is in need. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you need any support with your metal component requirements for life-sustaining, essential applications during this challenging time. We are here to help, and we are here to work with you to find the solution. We are here to make sure life-sustaining, essential products get to the critical point of use.
Open up any social media platform, and you know what you will find right now. As we all know, COVID-19 is spreading, and many people are concerned about their personal health, as well as the health of their loved ones. This has impacted many people, and the way that we all interact and socialize. It has made us rethink a lot of things that normally we would do without even thinking about it. In spite of this, and what I love the most about people, is that when it comes down to it, there are many good people in the world that will do anything they can do to help someone else. I have seen people do things that are outside of their normal comfort zone, for example, there are a lot of people in our neighborhood who are just randomly dropping off food on porches for the needy. We even have a local glove company changing their process to make masks for nursing homes! It’s times like this that bring us all together as one…to help those in need, and to show compassion and love to the world around us. These examples remind me that we are all in this together, and that we depend on each other. At Clearfield, we recognize this, and we stand ready to help wherever we can.
We are a proud bunch here at Clearfield. We love what we do, and we love helping to make a positive impact to the world around us. We recently updated our company video so that you could have an opportunity to meet some of the family. I encourage you to take a peek, and to see the people behind the parts that are used in so many different global applications.
We Are Clearfield Metal Technologies!
Being a former chef, I love the recipes, ingredients, processes, and teamwork to make the perfect dish. It is no different in the world of manufacturing. We seek all the highest quality ingredients, world class recipes, processes, and procedures. Plus we have highly trained Teammates that know how to make their part of the dish the best way possible.
Just like i
n any dish, ingredients are the most important part of recipe, and the freshest ingredients work the best. Along with freshness, we also demand quality. With every lot of powder we receive, we receive a Certificate of Analysis that ensures we are getting what we expect from our suppliers.
Just as techniques and time limits to whisking, cooking, and baking for each new dish are defined, we take particular care in our recipes and processes when we create a new part. We take it one step further. We start with the end product, and design a Process Flow that tells us what steps are needed to make the best part. We then go through what could possibly go wrong with each step of the process, creating a Potential Failure Mode and Effect Analysis. We then create the recipe, a Control Plan. Based on the Process Flow and PFMEA, we design what we should do in each step, including how much weight of material it needs and what molds we need to make the part. We specify the temperatures and finishing processes to make it the best possible part to meet our customers’ specifications.
Just like any gourmet dish, a team of hands and experience goes into the making of the parts. From the Head Chef to the Saucier in the kitchen, the same quality of talent and commitment is put into designing and creating our process for production. Sales kicks off with the customer specific requirements and design requirements for a part. Engineering and Quality choose materials and equipment required to make the parts. Production adds experience to the process to create efficiency and repeatability. Our team works together to provide quality and consistency that will encourage any customer to come back for more.
Just like cooking that perfect chocolate soufflé and watching your customer enjoy your hard work, we get that same pleasure when we make your parts in our kitchen.
With the pro football season getting closer to the Big Game, the frenzy is mounting to see the culmination of an exciting and unexpected season. Here at Clearfield Metal Technologies, we are excited for our Big Game and how we’re trying to change and improve our game every day!
Our goal is to be the cleanest, smoothest-operating, and quickest-to-respond powdered metal company out there. Improvements can’t happen without a game plan and a course of action to execute the plan! That’s where Continuous Improvement and 5S come in. Once a month, the Supervisors from Molding, Sintering, Machining, Quality, Tumbling, and Shipping all huddle up as a team and discuss the offensive line.
5S results in a workplace that is clean, uncluttered, safe, and well organized to help reduce waste and optimize productivity. We have been making big strides in each department with regards to how we most efficiently organize the work space, as well as improve efficiency of part production. The results have been a game changer for how we organize and train on using the workspace the most efficiently.
A continual improvement process is an ongoing effort to improve products, services, or processes. Every month our departments get together to discuss the realities of making powdered metal parts and how the process can be improved, or made more efficient.
Here at CMT we are constantly self-reflecting on what makes a team great. We don’t shy away from the kind of plays that are tough, but ultimately win the game. Being a team player is what we are about, and we do it by striving for excellence, and being a close ally to our customers and what their needs are in the parts we make. When everyone plays for the same team, we all make it to the endzone together!
Before we look forward to another great year in 2020 for Clearfield Metal Technologies, we pause for a moment to reflect on our accomplishments in 2019. This past year has been a year of significant growth for our company, as we finished with a 20% increase from the previous year. This was only made possible as a result of our dedicated team that works very hard to make sure that we meet our customer requirements and expectations. To say that I am proud of our team is an understatement. They have risen to every occasion, have faced many challenges, and yet have continued to prepare us for the future, and this is what makes me so excited about 2020. All of us here know that at the core of our business, are our customers. They are the reason we do what we do. They are what fuels our passion for continual improvement and innovation. Our customers drive us into new and exciting opportunities, and sometimes direct us towards things that we have never done before. With each and every challenge we have faced this past year, we have taken a step; often, a step towards the familiar, but sometimes a critical step towards the unknown. Our natural tendency is to walk in familiar territory, and to avoid unknown steps. But as a wise person once told me, sometimes, the only way around it, is by going through it. To take that unknown step. To face the unknown, and to be willing to make mistakes for the sake of growth. Yes, mistakes happen, but we face them and learn from them. What we have learned as a result, and how these mistakes have taught us and have better positioned us for the future, has made taking those uncomfortable, unknown steps worth it.
As a result of always listening to and focusing on our customers, and being willing to sometimes take that unknown step into new opportunities, processes, and technologies, we anticipate yet another strong year of growth in 2020. In order facilitate this, Clearfield has invested in additional equipment and upgrades for 2020. Some of the highlights are:
